–Leon and Katherine Castillo, the owners of San Luis Obispo’s Popolo Catering Company, recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary, the 10 year anniversary of owning the company, and a retirement all in one big bash at Courtyard Marriott in San Luis Obispo. Popolo Catering San Luis Obispo has been owned and operated by Leon and Katherine Castillo for just over 10 years, with Popolo Catering originating 40 years ago in downtown SLO. Still deeply in love after 35 years of marriage, Leon and Katherine have been hands-on owners of Popolo Catering, and often are working with staff in kitchens, walking through venues, and keeping in close contact with clients and vendors. A labor of love and a passion for uniting people with great food has brought together the San Luis Obispo community and the Castillo family. Leon is the face and voice of Popolo Catering, and Katherine supervises the office staff, both working with the local community, by immersing themselves in the business. Katherine said,” I’ve never worked so hard, so diligently, and been so rewarded, it is so cool, to be immersed in the business and community.” Katherine had worked for Cal Poly for 22 years and now has more time on her hands to run Popolo Catering with her husband, Leon.
Experts at catering and big parties, they had to go big and planned for 8 months to get their multi-celebration in order. Leon and Katherine Castillo’s party had to be larger than life, with so many milestones all at the same time. Both owners are good listeners and knew what fun the party could be with just the right planning. With their years of experience catering big events for SLO county locals, they decided to invite over 300 friends and family members to the party. Go big or go home!
