Weddings are rich in tradition and history. Nowadays there is a trend of couples either reimagining these traditions or getting rid of them altogether. We have a couple of weddings coming up where instead of the traditional flower girl our couples are opting to have flower men and women. This got us thinking about where and how the flower girl tradition began.
The concept of the flower girl originated in ancient Rome. The flower girls would carry sheaves of wheat and bouquets of herbs. These were chosen as a symbol of fertility and prosperity to bless the couple. It was in the 16th century when flowers started to be incorporated with the herb bouquets the girls carried. The most common flowers used were roses, orange blossoms, rosemary, and baby’s breath.
We cannot wait to share photos of this bend in tradition! Catering on the Central Coast definitely has its perks. Not only do we get to see the gorgeous venues Santa Barbara County, San Luis Obispo County, and beyond have to offer; but we also get to be surrounded by all walks of life who wow us with their creativity in planning and decor.
