Spotlight on an Employee: Popolo Catering General Manager Kenny
Our blogs are a fantastic way to showcase some of our amazing employees at Popolo Catering. This is the first in a series that will do just that. If you want to learn more about our family-owned and operated business, keep reading this Spotlight on an Employee: Popolo Catering General Manager Kenny.
Kenny has been the general manager of Popolo Catering for four years. He leads Popolo with enthusiasm in day-to-day operations. His duties include ordering food, creating schedules, and making staffing decisions for events. On top of these responsibilities, he runs the kitchen and develops exciting new recipes for us. Kenny can also be seen leading a team at the events, and getting his hands dirty cooking and prepping in the kitchen for events.
Early Days
Did you know that Kenny is the son of Popolo Catering owners Leon and Kathleen Castillo? Before we became an official restaurant and catering company, Kenny got his start washing the giant pots in the front yard after our dad would BBQ for friends and family. Learning to BBQ from his dad, Kenny quickly developed a love for the business.
COVID Times
During COVID, when our dad Leon was unable to work due to being so sick with the virus, Kenny truly stepped up. Kenny led Popolo during those challenging times. He pivoted from catering weddings to focusing on food deliveries. This helped families enjoy delicious meals during tough times. He also recognized the hard work of medical staff and generously donated many meals to hospital workers.
Outside of Popolo
When he’s not at Popolo, Kenny is a devoted dad to three wonderful children. He loves coaching their sports teams or simply being there to cheer them on. An avid sports fan, Kenny passionately supports the Dodgers, 49ers, and Lakers. Even on weekends, you can find Kenny happily barbecuing at home, always cooking up something delicious.
